Summary

Field of study: Universal History (medieval period).

The purpose of the work: is to study the agricultural occupations of the townspeople from Rzeczpospolita and Moldova Principality and to establish the place of this branch in the economy of the cities from nominated countries in the XVI c. until the last quarter of the XVII c., namely until the beginning of the economic decline in these countries.

Thesis objectives: investigation of the historiography and documentary sources on the agriculture role in the urban economy of Rzeczpospolita and Moldova Principality; study of the factors that determined maintaining of agricultture practicing in medieval cities from Eastern Europe in the XVI-XVII c.; analysis of the main branches of urban agriculture in the XVI-XVII c. in the cities from Rzeczpospolita and Moldova Principality; research the disputes related to the use of agricultural lands in the cities from the geographic area of that two countries; investigation of the crafts related to agricultural products (crops and livestock) processing; study of the internal and external commerce with agricultural goods produced in the cities from Rzeczpospolita and Moldova Principality in the XVI-XVII c.; estimating the agriculture role in the economic system of towns from the studied area.

Scientific novelty and originality of the obtained results. The doctoral thesis represents a study in which have been analyzed in complex and systemic mode the role of agriculture in the economy of cities from Rzeczpospolita and Moldova Principality. In the center of attention have been the investigation and exploitation of agriculture practicies phenomenon in the cities from proposed space for research. The novelty of the work lies in the comparative analysis of the urban agriculture evolution in a extensive geographic area, but also in the complexity of the subject, in which are combines the history of agriculture, economy and cities evolution from Eastern Europe.

Important scientific problem solved. In the present research, have been established the differences between the formation of the cities in Rzeczpospolita and Moldova Principality, have been highlighted the most important branches of agriculture which determined in the greatest extent the evolution of the cities, have been analyzed the rights of the townspeople on the arable lands, the marketing of agricultural products and domestic animals in the domestic and foreign markets, have been researched the agricultural crafts related to agriculture and so on.

The theoretical significance of the work consists in the scientific argumentation of the results and the conclusions of the research. The materials introduced in the scientific circuit will help to intensification of agriculture history study in the cities of Eastern Europe, will open new directions for research of European cities history towards the end of the Middle Ages.

Applicative value of the work. The thesis's materials can be used for initiate young researchers in studying the cities history from Eastern Europe, in the research of urban economy from this geographic area, for researching common and specific features of the urban economy in Eastern Europe, attracting researchers in the studing of comparative problems from Medieval history.

Implementation of scientific results. The scientific results of the investigation were implemented by presenting communications at 5 national and 5 international scientific conferences, as well through scientific publications.
