Field of study: History of Romanians.

The purpose and objectivesof the thesis are oriented for complex study of the evolution of the education system in Bukovina between 1774-1918. The objectives of the work lies in: examining the policy of the Austrian authorities in the education system; comparison of primary education in Bukovina in differrent administration periods; establishing the contingent structure of pupils by their mother tongue and confessi-ons; determining the level of book science of the Bukovina population; elucidating the activity of the se-condary schools; identifying the similarities and differences of the education system in Bukovina in relation to other Austrian provinces and territories inhabited by Romanians; highlighting the struggle of Bukovinian Romanians for education in mother tongue; the evaluation of the activity of the University of Chernivtsi.

The scientific novelty of the workconsists in the comprehensive elucidation of the education system in Bukovina, obtaining a general picture of the school institutions. For the first time was made a comparison of the evolution of the education in Bukovina with other Austrian provinces and with spaces inhabited by Romanians. This way of approaching and comparatively investigating the educational system is a reference for a new direction of research in the historiography of the Republic of Moldova. By elaborating this thesis, was solved the problem of the state of education in Bukovina during the Austrian period.

The theoretical value of the thesis consists in the complex study and analysis of the published works and unpublished documents, of the statistics and school yearbooks, which allowed us to draw up a synthesis work on the topic. The study brings a new theoretical input, both in the field of historical and interdisciplinary science, offering a synthesis work on the history of Bukovina. By elaborating this thesis, for the historical science of the Republic of Moldova is offered a theoretical model of the study of the education of Bessarabia in the period 1812-1918.

The practical value of the thesis. The results of the researches in this thesis will be used in the elaboration of some synthesis studies, to writing of license, master and doctoral theses, in teaching university courses, to the elaboration of the monographs of some villages or schools. The work is useful for researchers studying the history of Bukovina, but also to specialists, preoccupied with research in pedagogy, demography, church history, statistics.

Implementation of scientific results. The scientific results were used in the elaboration of the monographs of some schools and villages in the region of Chernivtsi and district Suceava. Some conclusions and school statistics from our studies have been implemented in the statements of the Romanian societies in Chernivtsi, to support education in Romanian language in Ukraine
