Summary

Areas of research: semantics, etymology, the words’formation, lexicology and lexicography, functional stylistics.

Goal and objectives:to identify linguistic evidence which could establish the basis of internal organization and functional and stylistic stratification of Romanian language lexis, the lexicographic, lexical and semantic interpretation of the language units in accordance with their real situation in language system. In order to reach this goal, the following objectives were established: the examination of the concepts (system, subsystem, lexical and semantic field) in order to understand the vocabulary as a lot of lexical units; the determination of the lexical organizational factors; the semantic systematization of Romanian vocabulary; the formative and etymological organization of lexis, the functional and stylistic stratification of Romanian language lexis on coordinates (temporal, territorial, social and stylistic), the lexicographic description of vocabulary and its presentation according to the stylistic stratification.

Scholarly novelty and originality.The study’s innovation achieves an attempt of deepening for a multilateral analysis, in the intention to achieve a greater degree of precision and rigour in interpreting these lexical units. The rich sample of analyzed language facts has allowed their specifics’ emphasis in language, their real function in the process of updating the language, in lights of these findings were formulated certain suggestions of lexicographic reinterpretation for these units.

Scientific solved problemconsists in determining the ways of internal organization and the principles of functional and stylistic stratification of Romanian language lexis, which has contributed to the clarification of the essence of lexical and stylistic stratification of vocabulary depending on its expressive value in various literary works, thus we propose concrete solutions in order to include these lexical units or their meanings in the explanatory dictionary with the necessary stylistic remarks.

Theoretical significance and applicative value of the dissertation. The present piece of research may serve as a theoretical-practical basis for further study. Its results presents interest for lexicographic practice in the process of compiling dictionaries and lexicographic treatment of various lexical units (neologism, archaism, idiom, slangs) and will contribute to filling the gaps concerning semantics, etymology, the words’ formation, lexicology and lexicography.

Implementation of research results. The results of the study may be successfully used in higher education by teachers and students, during theoretical and practical courses of lexicology, lexicography, semantics, words’ formation and etymology. The practical and theoretical conclusions of the thesis will be used for the lexicographic presentation of different lexicons in Romanian language dictionaries
