Field o f sc ientific research: the mod ern history of Romanians (according to time p eriods).

The goal of the researchis the unbiased coverage of establishment and consolidation of the German community in Bessarabia during 1814–1917.

The o bjectives o f the research: 1) to reveal the level of the research of this prob lem; 2) to analyze the causes and the ways of colonization of Bessarabia with Germans; 3) to investigate the demographic evolution of the German population during 1814-1917; 4) to examine the administrative-territorial organization in the German settlements during 1814–1871 and after the reform‟s period of time; 5) to elu cidate the development of the agricu lture in German localities; 6) to outline the specifics of agrarian relations until 1871 and after the reform‟s period; 7) to investigate the industrial, commercial and banking activities of Bessarabian Germans; 8) to analyze the establishment and affirmation of the primary and secondary education in the German settlements and the influence of tsarist policies on them; 9) to outline the peculiarities of the evolution of cultural and spiritual life of Bessarabian Germans.

Scie ntific no velty and or iginality of the research consists in the complex in vestigation of the demographic, socio-economic, cultural and spiritual evolution in the German settlements of Bessarabia during the Russian imperial administration on the basis of published sources and a substantial archival material.

The ma in resolved scientific problem is the elu cidation of the evolution of the German community in Bessarabia during 1814-1917, which resulted in the objective assessment of the role of this ethnic minority in the development of the southern part of this region. Theoretical value of the study is due to its originality and expressed in the scientific argumentation of the results and conclusions, obtained for researching of this problem. For historical science this thesis presents theoretical model for investigation of the evolution of an ethnic minority living in an environment distinct from the origin country. The obtained results will facilitate the introduction of new data and concepts relative to the demographic, socio-economic and cultural-spiritual evolution in German settlements in accordance with tsarist policy in Bessarabia in 1814–1917.

Practical significance. The thesis includes substantial and documented factual material that can be used for educational, didactic and cognitive purposes. The study is necessary for the development, re-evaluation and supplementation of complex works, disciplines related to the evolution of ethnic minorities in Bessarabia during the tsarist period. Ethnologists working in this field could find useful information, that was systematized on the basis of archival documents and studies of the historical context in which a community developed over a whole century.

Imple mentation of sc ientific results: The results of this research were reflected in 19 scientific publications and participation in two national scientific projects, aimed at studying of the ethnic minorities of the Republic of Moldova.
