The goal is to investigate psychological peculiarities of middle-aged women’s self- actualization in their relationship with external factors (occupational sphere, marital satisfaction and educational background) and the internal ones (subjective perception of well-being). The objectives of the research provide theoretical and empirical analysis on the phenomenon of self- actualization, description of content, structure of self-actualization levels, identification of the relationship between them and subjective well-being, marital satisfaction and educational background, development and experimentation of a training program for personal development aiming at enhancing psychological skills.

Novelty and scientific originality. For the first time the author identified and analyzed the peculiarities of middle-aged women’s self-actualization with respect to the occupational sphere (professional or household activities). The interrelationships that appear between the peculiarities of women’s self-actualization and external factors (occupational sphere, marital relationship and educational background) and internal factors (subjective perception of well-being) have been analyzed. The thesis offers new perspectives to realize specific aspects of women’s self- actualization, as well as of factors and conditions that facilitate the tendencies of self- actualization.

Theoretical significance. Theoretical research findings complement the scientific understanding of the phenomenon of self-actualization, in terms of peculiarities of middle-aged women’s self-actualization and the role of the educational background, occupational field, marital relationships, subjective well-being and satisfaction in different spheres of life. The applied value of the thesis is to develop a personal development program: the program is based on author’s vision, and taking into account the principles of methodological eclecticism, it can be successfully applied in psychological counseling to women facing difficulties in self-actualization, as well as in personal development programs in family counseling. The data obtained represent a rich material for university teaching of general psychology, psychology of age, personality psychology, foundations of counseling, psychotherapy and family psychotherapy. Accordingly, this research represents a theoretical and practical support for further studies.

Implementation of scientific results. The results were implemented within university- level teaching, in the framework of courses "Adolescent and Adult Psychology," Foundations of Counseling, "Elements of Psychotherapy" and "Health Psychology”.
