Field of study: history and theory of musical performing art on the trumpet; the history and theory of musical genre and styles.
The aim and objectives of the thesis: the identification and analysis of composing and performing expressiveness means in solo trumpet works, with piano or organ accompaniment and concert works composed during the 20th century; acknowledgement of expressiveness as a subject of musicological research; elucidation of the complex of performing means as a way of achievement of the higher level of expressiveness while approaching the 20th century trumpet repertory; emphasizing the role of modern study methods in solving technical problems, connected to the performing activity of the player.
The scientific novelty of the thesis is in completing, for the first time, a complex research based on the examination of expressiveness means as an important counterpart of the composition language and of the performing style in the modern trumpet repertory. The innovative character of this work comes also from other aspects: it is for the first time in our musicology the expressiveness means are approached as a determining factor in the evolution of the performing technique for the trumpet and of the repertory for this instrument; it is also for the first time that several works for trumpet by national and international composers become objects of scientific investigation.
The scientific problem solved consists in deepening the knowledge, in the field of describing and analyzing the means of composing and performing expressiveness in the modern trumpet repertory and the reflection of the evolution of the trumpet solo repertory from the viewpoint of performing expressiveness. Thus, a multilateral analysis of selected works with emphasis on means of expressiveness and formulating conclusions contributed to the elimination of certain gaps and inaccuracies in the theoretical coverage of the fundamental problems of the art of trumpet performing.
The theoretical significance of the thesis consists in the axiological substantiation of exploring the means of artistic expressiveness, an important semantic nucleus of musical creation. At the same time, the study of a vast material, dealing with numerous aspects of the art of performing at the trumpet, allowed the enrichment of the concept apparatus of the researched subject, materialized on the theoretical level in information systematization, obtained from a large volume of scientific works, with reference to the identification of expressiveness means, discovered and used by composers, as well as to their transfer to teaching practice and the players’ performance. The results of this investigation could give an impulse to the research of certain problems connected to technological and artistic aspects of instrumental performance, becoming a landmark for further theoretical and methodological study in this field.
The applicative value of the work. The materials of the thesis can be used as additional cognitive sources in the study of specialty matters (Instrument, Chamber Ensemble, The method of teaching wind instruments, History of performing art etc.) in specialized medium and higher education institutions. Also, the given results could become a useful methodological support in corroboration and streamlining of the teaching-instructive process, in the formation of competence traits, in professional abilities amongst students, master students, as well as in the performing practice of trumpet players. The author’s conclusions and recommendations will contribute to improving the performing level of the national trumpet school.
