Thesis structure: the paper contains the introduction, 3 chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, 220 bibliographic titles, 9 annexes, 129 pages of basic text, 45 figures, 19 tables. The research is reflected in 26 scientific papers (over 8 author’s sheet).

The aim of the paper: theoretical and methodological sustantiation of the organization and self-organization of the research, development and innovation complex system by identifying synergetic aspects in order to develop and apply recommendations for efficient organization of RDI system in the Republic of Moldova.

Research objectives: To identify the characteristics of the complex RDI system and its study and modelling methods; To emphase the development trends of RDI systems in the world and in the Republic of Moldova; To highlight the organizational characteristics of RDI systems in different countries and in the Republic of Moldova; To determine the self-organizing aspects in RDI system; To identify solutions for enhancing the organization of the RDI system in the Republic of Moldova.

The scientific novelty and originality developing the conceptual model of the complex system of RDI through the prism of input elements, activities, output elements; identifying trends in the development of RDI systems; elaboration of the ranking of RDI systems through the prism of scientometric indicators; determining the level of development of science in the Republic of Moldova compared to other countries; elaboration of the formula of calculation the Science and Technology Development Index and determination of the interdependence between the RDI system and the social and economic system of the country; determining the role and level of scientific collaboration in the RDI system in the Republic of Moldova; highlighting the characteristics and problems in the RDI system in the Republic of Moldova in terms of institutionalization principles and based on SWOT analysis; proposing measures to enhance the organization of the RDI system in the Republic of Moldova.

The obtained results that contribute to the solution of the scientific problem: For the first time the RDI system was analyzed through the prism of different aspects of organization and selforganization of complex systems. It was justifyed that the RDI system is organized from the poin of view of its institutionalization and legislative and normative regulation, but also self-organized in terms of social and cultural aspects, infromation model, scientific collaboration network an dis closely linked to other systems and subsistems.

The theoretical significance consists in: synthesizing the theoretical-conceptual framework of the organization and self-organization of the RDI system; systematization of the particularities of organization and management of the RDI system; identification of self-organizing aspects of the RDI system.

The applicative value of the paper results from the recommendations and solutions proposed to decision-makers in the research, development and innovation system and researchers in the fields of science of science. The formulated conclusions can serve as a theoretical basis for the elaboration of strategies and policies in research, development and innovation.

The research results were implemented at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Information Society Development Institute, Technical University of Moldova.
