Summary

Thesis Structure: the paper consists of 134 pages of electronic text and includes an introduction, five chapters, conclusions, practical recommendations, a summary in Romanian, Russian, English languages and a bibliographic index with 282 references; it also includes 36 figures, 44 tables, 2 formulas and 4 annexes. The results obtained are presented in 9 scientific papers.

Field of Study: nutrition and metabolism policies in public health.

Aim: Assessment of the obesity phenomenon particularities from the perspective of the population's behaviour and the Primary Health Care capacities for the proposal of the interventions for the prevention and control of obesity.

Objectives:1) Analysis of obesity among the adult population and of the public health policies developed to reduce this phenomenon; 2) Determining the behaviour of the population as a risk factor for obesity by applying its evaluation algorithm; 3) Risk assessment for obesity in the adult population of the Republic of Moldova by applying its evaluation algorithm; 4) Evaluation of the intervention capacities of the Primary Health Care regarding the phenomenon of obesity; 5) Identifying of key points for recommendation of effective public health interventions, including at the level of primary health care in order to prevent and control obesity.

The novelty and scientific originality of the thesis. It was evaluated, for the first time, the attitude of health care providers towards the phenomenon of obesity. An obesity risk assessment tool has been developed. Based on developed and validated tool, new data were obtained on the phenomenon of obesity in the adult population of the Republic of Moldova.

The scientific problem solved in the thesis consists in the multidimensional evaluation of the obesity phenomenon with the application of the obesity risk assessment tool for proposing effective interventions by appreciating the impact of the local factors favoring the lifestyle of the population leading to obesity. Theoretical Importance of the Study. The results obtained in the research paper contribute to the development of the concept of determinants of health in general and of social determinants in particular.

Applied Significance of the Paper. The results and materials developed in the research can be widely applied in the continuing education of public health professionals, family doctors and nurses and will serve as scientific support for the development of strategic interventions to promote healthy lifestyle among the population. Implementation of Scientific Results. the results of the scientific study have been used for developing an algorithm for evaluating the lifestyle and an algorithm for assessing the obesity risk in the adult population of Moldova
