ANNOTATION
COJOCARU Viorel, „The specificity of bioethical landmarks in the spiritual counseling of detainees: theoretical-practical analysis”, doctoral thesis in philosophy,
specialty 632.01-Ethics and bioethics, Chisinau, 2022
Thesis structure: introduction, 3 compartments, general conclusions and
recommendations, bibliography of 270 titles, 6 annexes, 166 pages of basic text. The results are
published in 29 scientific papers.
Keywords: bioethics, spiritual counseling, vulnerability, value, detainee, penitentiary, spiritual assistant, spirituality.
The thesis aims to configure and implement the concept of spiritual counselling of
detainees by capitalizing on the bioethical potential.
To achieve the goal, the following objectives were proposed: identifying the interferences
between bioethics and other fields regarding the contribution of interdisciplinary research in
spiritual counselling; revealing bioethical concepts regarding spiritual counselling; determining
the unique role of bioethics in the analysis of the way of life in the penitentiary; the foundation of
bioethical principles in spiritual counseling in conditions of detention; highlighting the aspects of
social bioethics in the process of spiritual counselling; the elucidation of the theoretical-practical
components in the process of counselling detainees; defining the main problems of implementation
of bioethical postulates in spiritual counselling.
The novelty of the work in question resides in the fact that, although I discuss aspects that,
in one way or another, have been reflected in the specialized literature, it is nevertheless imposed
by promoting an innovative, overall, global and interdisciplinary vision both on the concept of
spiritual counselling of detainees by capitalizing on the bioethical potential, as well as the notions
of "spiritual assistance" and "bioethical principles of spiritual counselling", which are
insufficiently addressed in the specialized literature.
A theoretical analysis was carried out for the first time in the Republic of Moldova in the
field of configuring ethical-practical support in the process of spiritual counselling and its
implementation systems. Thus, the work represents one of the first complex scientific research
devoted to ethical-practical research in the spiritual-practical counselling of detainees under the
conditions of local penitentiaries. At the same time, for the first time, the study was conducted
from the perspective of applying a concrete tactic in spiritual counselling based on bioethical
principles in the conditions of the country's penitentiaries. To make spiritual assistance more
efficient in the specific existential needs of the penitentiary, a classification of moral values in the
implementation of spiritual assistance in the prison environment was presented.
The originality of the research consists in the novel conception and factual presentation
of the methodological indications of social bioethics, the process of bioethics, bioethical evaluation
and adaptation of detainees to a general habitat corresponding to the requirements in force, but
also the qualitative maintenance of the psychosomatic state in particular.
The obtained results that contribute to the solution of a problem can be found in the
realization of the bioethical potential in the interference with other disciplines in the process of
spiritual counselling of persons deprived of liberty, and the efficiency of the spiritual conditions
of the convicts during the detention period. With the contribution of spiritual counselling, it is
desired to omit and minimize the spiritual-moral crises created by the specific environment, which
distort both the value of the human being and the psychosomatic state of the convict.
The implementation of the scientific results took place through scientific projects within
the institutional and state programs, at national and international scientific forums, and by
organizing training, and practical seminars with specialists trained in the activity of penitentiary
institutions.
