Summary

Thesis structure. The text of the thesis is presented on 110 pages of basic text, processed on the computer, consisting of: list of abbreviations, introduction, 4 chapters, general conclusions, practical recommendations, bibliography from 192 sources and 12 appendices. The illustrative material includes 31 tables, 14 figures and 7 formulas.

Field of study: 323.01 – Stomatology

The purpose of the work: The selection, translation, evaluation of the psychometric properties of the instruments for the assessment of the perception of orofacial aesthetics and oral function (mastication) for their validation and implementation in dental clinical practice in the Republic of Moldova.

The objectives of the research: Analysis of specialized literature with the identification and selection of instruments for evaluating patients' self-perception regarding orofacial aesthetics and oral function (mastication), candidates for adaptation and validation in dental clinical practice in the Republic of Moldova; the translation from English into Romanian of the OHRQoL instruments for evaluating patients' self-perception regarding orofacial aesthetics and oral function (mastication), with the validation and evaluation of psychometric properties in native Romanian-speaking dental patients; determining the discriminative capacity of the instruments for the assessment of the patients' self-perception regarding orofacial aesthetics and oral function (mastication) with the exploration of potential predictors in dental patients; evaluating the clinical utility of the integrated DESI screening protocol against other orofacial esthetics assessment instruments; establishing the level of expression and the intercorrelation between objective and subjective indices in the fields of orofacial aesthetics and oral function (mastication) of the oral health associated quality of life in dental patients.

Scientific novelty and originality: For the first time, data were obtained regarding the level of evaluation of the self-perception of orofacial aesthetics and oral function by dental patients for the Romanian-speaking young adult population (18-40 years) from the Republic of Moldova. For the first time, the role of some potential predictors of the self-perception of orofacial aesthetics and oral function in dental patients from the young adult population (18-40 years old) speakers of the Romanian language in the Republic of Moldova was explored. Data were obtained regarding the expression of different subjective and objective indices for the evaluation of orofacial aesthetics and oral function in different sub-groups of dental patients from the Republic of Moldova, according to gender, age, global self-assessment of oral health and self-belief regarding the need for dental treatment using functional-aesthetic rehabilitation. A modest level of intercorrelation was determined between the subjective and objective indices for evaluating orofacial aesthetics and oral function (mastication), which reconfirms the need to develop new integrative tools based on the development of existing conceptual models regarding the OHRQoL sub-domains. It has been determined that the results of the evaluation of the patient's orofacial aesthetics by dental specialists are potentially biased according to their basic specialty (branch of dentistry) of the clinician.

The applicative value of the work. The validation data of the OES-RO and CFQ-RO questionnaires and their high psychometric properties recommend their use in the dental practice of the Republic of Moldova at different stages of clinical patient management. The obtained results allow recommending the use of the modified DESI2 screening protocol in the dental clinical practice in the Republic of Moldova, with prior training of the specialist to avoid bias during assessment. An algorithm was developed for the selection and application of tools to evaluate the orofacial aesthetics and oral function (mastication) domains of OHRQoL, depending on the purpose, objectives and clinical needs of the dental patient investigation.

Implementation of scientific results. The results of scientific research were implemented in the research process, methodological and clinical activity at the “Fala Dental” Clinic, “Megalux Dent” Clinic, IM “Municipal Dental Center”, in the didactic training process at the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of SUMPh “Nicolae Testemițanu”.
