Summary

The investigation is dedicated to one of the most actual and complex issue of modern psychology – the gender differences in adolescent depression. The value of the research consists in the creation of an original concept of the complexity of the problem of gender differences in depression including the issues of gender differences in expression of depressive symptoms, the gender-specific vulnerability to depression, the role of harmonious intereorisation of gender characteristics.

The theoretical biases of the research include the philosophic approaches and the psychological conceptions regarding the specificity of adolescent depression and regarding the etiology of gender differences in adolescent depression.

It was experimentally demonstrated the female preponderance in depression and the male preponderance in alexithimic tendencies and the reticent attitude of male adolescents to help-seeking behavior. Also, it was identified the psychosocial factors which define the female vulnerability to depression in adolescence and was identified the role of harmonious development of both feminine and masculine characteristics for a good psychological functioning.

Onother important contribution of the investigation is the elaboration and realization of the complex psychocorrectional programme for depressive adolescents. The objectivs of psychological programme were related to depression and to other important correlates of adolescent depression: anxiety symptoms, psychosomatic symptoms, lack of assertiveness.
