Summary

The topic of the dissertation for Habilitation degree: „Machiavellianism in the structure of modern psychological knowledge: problems of theory and methodology of analysis", Chisinau, 2021. Structure: introduction, 6 chapters, conclusions and recommendations, list of references (335 titles), 34 figures, 22 tables, 9 appendices. The research results are presented in 320 pages of main text and 133 pages in the appendix and reflected in 75 scientific papers. Keywords: Machiavellianism, "the end justifies the means", realism, manipulation, Machiavellian person, the methodology of analysis, socio-psychological, clinical-psychological and evolutionary directions of research, the structure of psychological knowledge, dysfunctional personality, self-understanding, self-actualization. Field of study: general psychology. Objective: investigation of the conceptual basis and types of analysis of the "Machiavellianism" phenomenon; the establishment of the sources of the inevitable multidirectionality in contemporary research connected with the study of this phenomenon in the structure of modern psychological knowledge. Scientific novelty and originality: the creation of a new direction in the study of the Machiavellian phenomenon; demonstration of the advantages of interdisciplinary model in the analysis of the phenomenon; relevant models of studying Machiavellianism in psychology; experimental proof of the possibility of reducing the Machiavellian personality rating, through a targeted influence on personal resources with the aim of promoting assertiveness. The main results of the study: justification of connections between the Machiavelli’s ideas and the Machiavellianism as an object of psychological science; experimental evidence of the relation between specific personality features, their manifestations at the subclinical level, and the style of Machiavellian behavior in a difficult life situation. Theoretical significance. Theoretical and methodological aspects of the study of Machiavellianism in psychology; creation of a concept and a new direction in the study of Machiavellianism in the structure of modern psychological knowledge; a new contribution to the theory and practice of analyzing the behavior of the Machiavellian person. Practical significance: The results of the research are of interest to specialists in the field of general psychology, age psychology, organizational psychology, clinical psychology, victimology and forensic psychology, psychopatology, social anthropology, security, political psychology, leadership, management, law, ethics, and pedagogics. Introduction into practice of the educational process; validation of a psychosocial program of intervention for development of assertiveness of a person; in the practice of drawing up a psychological report (at the request of the prosecutor's office) on the use of manipulative technologies in propaganda. The results of the study were also presented at numerous international and national conferences.
