Summary

The structure of the thesis: introduction, 5 chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, bibliography (283 sources), 12 annexes, 120 pages of main content, 21 tables, 48 figures. The results have been published in 20 scientific papers.

Field of study: Botany.

Goal: the determination of the bioecological features of several species of the genus Kniphofia Moench, in order to identify the most promising ones: with ornamental potential, more productive and resistant to the new living conditions, for their conservation and sustainable use.

Objectives: the analysis and synthesis of bibliographic data; the comparative study of the pace of development of Kniphofia species based on phenological observations made under new living conditions; the identification of ontogenetic periods and stages under ex situ conditions; conducting anthecological research; the morphogenetic study of vegetative organs; the identification of the peculiarities of fructification; the determination of seed production; the determination of the coefficient of vegetative multiplication; the elaboration of recommendations for the cultivation and breeding of the most promising species for landscaping.

Scientific novelty and originality: for the first time, under the pedo-climatic conditions of the Republic of Moldova, the biomorphological features of five species of the genus Kniphofia were studied, which made it possible to reveal the interdependence of phenological phases and the dynamics of their growth and, therefore, to predict their development under new conditions. A study on the ontogenesis of these species was done for the first time. The research on the anthecology of the introduced species, on the dynamics of flowering of plants and on their inflorescences is original. Besides, the potential and real seed productivity, the productivity coefficient and the seed quality were determined for the first time.

The results that contribute to the solution of an important scientific problem: the scientific substantiation regarding the study on the biomorphological features of the species of the genus Kniphofia under the conditions of the Republic of Moldova, which led to the elaboration of primary elements of cultivation and the identification of promising ornamental species, which are more productive and hardy under ex situ conditions, for their conservation and sustainable use in the country's economy.

Theoretical significance: overall, the data accumulated and recorded in this paper provide a partial contribution to the extensive process of introduction and breeding of flowering plants.

Applicative value: the data on the ontogenetic cycle will help selecting and implementing the correct cultivation methods that are favorable for plant development and efficient fruiting, in order to obtain high quality seeds in our country. The results concerning the peculiarities of flowering offer the possibility of sustainable use of the studied species in landscape design and production of cut flowers.

The implementation of scientific results: as a result of the process of breeding by induction of mutations, a variety of Kniphofia was selected. The patent application for plant variety Nr. 516 of 02.12.2019 was registered at State Agency on Intellectual Property. The scientific results served as a methodological support for the courses of „Floriculture” and „Landscape Design” (cycle I), UASM.
