Summary

Structure of the thesis: Introduction, 3 chapters, annotations in 3 languages, Conclusions and recommendations, Bibliography of 190 references, 13 annexes, 42 figures, 8 tables, 2 schemes, 149 pages of the base text. The results of the research are reflected in 23 scientific papers.

Goal of the thesis is to identify value characteristics of traditional textile ornamentation as a source of identity and constituent part of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova.

Objectives of the thesis: analysis of bibliographical sources to assess the degree of topic elaboration; study of the evolution of decorative motifs in the context of ornamental art, the analysis of morphological and aesthetic features of ornamental motifs; identification of traditional and modern characteristics of traditional fabrics as ornamented objects; assessment of the impact of cultural interferences on the textile ornamentation.

Resolved scientific problem is to determine the ornamental features of traditional fabrics, in fact which led to the semantic approach of the decorative motifs, to estimate the role of traditional fabric ornamentation as a source of identity and part of the cultural heritage.

Scientific novelty and originality. The work is the first scientific study in the local ethnography, in which the problem of textile ornaments is considered. There are analyzed traditional and modern characteristics, semantics of decorative motifs, ambivalent consequences of acculturation.

Theoretical value derives from the results of detailed analysis of the evolution of traditional textile ornamentation aimed at identifying new aspects of research.

Applicative value. Materials provided in the thesis can be used in university courses and school programs, for the elaboration of lectures and special courses on Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Semiotics, on TV and in radio broadcasts. All this is aimed at preserving folk art in the spirit of traditional values.

Implementation of scientific results. The results of the research were presented and reflected in 23 articles in profile scientific journals of the Republic of Moldova and Romania. General volume of publications exceeds 7 author’s sheets.
