Summary

The field of research covers youth psychology.

The purpose of the research is to reveal the feeling of loneliness and its forms in young adults in relation with self-actualization and psychological conditions to overcome the feeling of loneliness.

Research objectives: To analyze the loneliness theories in order to establish the theoretical aspects relevant for running a research concerning the loneliness in young adults; to investigate gender differences in the experience of loneliness in young people and to establish the forms of loneliness; determination the relation between the loneliness forms in young adults; determination the relation between the feeling of loneliness and the self-actualization parameters; design and implement a psychosocial intervention program to increase the level of self actualization parameters that allow diminishing and overcoming feeling of loneliness in young adults; determine the effectiveness of psychosocial intervention program and propose recommendations on diminution strategies and overcome the feeling of loneliness in young adults.

The scientific novelty of the results. For the first time at national level, the issue of loneliness in young people is studied, the forms of loneliness, the relation between the loneliness and the parameters of the self-actualization, it was determined the gender differences, which enabled the modification and development of the parameters of the self-actualization through psychosocial intervention program, having the effect of overcoming loneliness in young adults.

The solved scientific problem consists in the complex study of the phenomenon of loneliness, in relation to self-actualization, which enabled the elaboration and application of the psychosocial intervention program to overcome loneliness in young adults.

The theoretical significance of the study lies in defining the concept of loneliness in relation to solitude, it has the expression in the scientific research of loneliness, its forms, the determinant factors of its diminution in the youth; the elucidation of the humanistic and cognitive behavioral notions of loneliness as a psychic phenomenon. The practical value of the research is that the results obtained are the basis of a good practice guide by elaborating, implementing and validating the psychosocial intervention program for young people in order to increase the level of self-actualization parameters in order to overcome loneliness, the deficit of social relations, as well as social reconciliation with a beneficial effect on their quality of life. Approval and implementation of scientific results. The results of this Ph.D. research were approved at the meetings of Psychology department on work of PhD students and various national and international conferences. The research results were implemented within the content of academic disciplin elaborated and taught by the author for students of department of Social Work in course of „Social work in mental health” at "Ion Creanga" Pedagogical State University
