Summary

Thesis’s structure: introduction, three chapters, general conclusions and recommendations, bibliography includes 345 references, 155 pages of basic text, 4 appendices and 5 boxes. Results of the research were published in 31 scientific articles. Areas of research. Political Sciences.

The purpose and the objectives of the work. The purpose is to analyse the degree of involvement and the results obtained by the civil society institutions in the development of the local community, having as a case study the Republic of Moldova.

The research goal implied the following objectives: analysing the historiography of civil society institutions phenomenon in the context of local community development; examining the theoretical and methodological approaches of the concepts "civil society institutions" and "local community development"; investigating the correlative dimensions of "civil society institutions" and "local community development"; analysing the Moldovan civil society institutions development in the context of democratic changes in the period of 1988 ‒ till present; examining the dynamics of local community development from the point of view of the structural changes of the civil society institutions; researching the collaboration partnership between civil society institutions and local public authorities in the local community development; assessing the specific functions of civil society institutions in the context of socio-economic and cultural changes at local level; presenting successful practices of civil society institutions in the development of communities in Soldanesti, Orhei and Cahul districts.

The important scientific problem solved is to determine the role of the civil society institutions on local community development in the Republic of Moldova, with the detachment of our country from the Soviet empire, which led to the identification for the academic and nongovernmental representatives of the main problems and challenges faced by the associative sector and allowed us make some recommendations for local community(ies) development in terms of economic, social and cultural aspects.

Scientific novelty and originality refers to placing into national science and practice of the concepts of "civil society institutions" and "local community development" as essential elements of ensuring general well-being and in the presentation of analytical - applicative approach of the role of civil society institutions in local community development. The theoretical significance derives from results and conclusions which were obtained during the research of the problem concerning the role of civil society institutions on local community development and presents a series of recommendations of theoretical and practical value.

Applicative value of the research. Research results, conclusions and synthesized recommendations can serve as landmarks for the governmental and non-governmental decision makers as well as for the international community to develop the local community at socioeconomic and cultural level. Some aspects tackled in thesis can be taught at university courses in the fields of political science and international relations.

Implementation of scientific results. The research results are reflected in academic papers that were presented at 14 scientific-practical conferences in the country and abroad; in 31 national and international scientific articles that were published by the author. Also, some practical aspects regarding the involvement of civil society institutions were addressed and discussed with representatives of civil society in the Republic of Moldova.
